Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s streamed back into your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of a cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020.

Introducing R-410A

R-410AChlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. That means it’ll cool your home without damaging the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for dependability, quiet operation and enhanced dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable.

Additional Considerations

At Custom Sheetmetal & Roofing, Inc. in Topeka, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If you have a system that was made prior to 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is scarce. Some manufacturers offer alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
